considering sabak bernam?

I know very little about the little northwest district of Sabak Bernam. well, i did know that they have a lot of paddy fields.....and that's it. I've never been there, and even if I did, it must've been a very, very long time ago because the whole experience was like a perfect first-time encounter. My main purpose of going there was to accompany the sekolah's team in the model-building competition in a school called SMK Ungku Aziz in the district's main town (and taking pictures, of course) so that later, i could make a documentation of the going-on's there. The other purposes, at least according to Pn Kash, was to accompany her in an extravagant shopping trip down in Sg Besar..which...in spite of the interesting scenes and all, was vividly terrifying. But but but. the town of Sg Besar did has some things to offer. Food are quite finger-licking. Clothes, bargains are quite a number...so beware if you come with your mom. Scroll down to have your highlights of this little district.

Restoran Haziq
I shouted loudly gile when i saw this restaurant, and we all laughed hysterically with Haziq himself being ridiculously proud. We were searching for a good breakfast when we first arrived at the town, and upon seeing this mamak restaurant, we all agreed to eat there without any further hesitation. Order your regular roti canai here. The roti is both soft and crispy, simply delightful after a long trip since 4am from Shah Alam. The roti planta is served just right, mildly sweet and contently mouth-watering. and of course, all these comes with a yummy teh tarik.

Cendol between Shoplots.
Halfway through the eerie shoppin
g trip on a hot noon, Pn Kash dragged us (me, & other 5 teachers..scary isn't it) to this cendol stall in between two shoplots. The stall doesn't has a name though, sigh. But i think it's behind a shop called Pasar Raya Ekonomi. Unlike Rojak Karim in our native Section 9, the cendol is not too sweet and the taste is just perfect. What's best, the cendol doesn't have any kacang merah in it! A good amount of santan was poured in, making the creamy-ness..a bomb. and eating a perfect cendol by a roadside under the shades of umbrellas during a sunny malaysian noon was priceless! (we ate there twice, the other being in the evening before going home)

Add: It's in Sg Besar. +p

Putu Piring Beside the Cendol Stall.
I don't have so much to elaborate on this one. Not my favourite, but if you're looking for a good and sweet snack, this is it. Outside it's kelapa, inside it's gula melaka. Just nice, nice, nice. And it's riiiight beside the cendol stall just in case you need something more for tea.
Add: please be smart enough to know whe
re the stall is.

APAM BALIK!
Crunchy crunchy outside and soft lofty inside, sweet jagung and chewy kacang. The pakcik really know how to make REAL apam balik! Endulge in a sinful adventure of eating the apam baliks made by the pakcik. Well, at least I remembered the stall was blue in colour (sbb ade gmbr haha). Serious apam balik lovers, if you happen to be stuck in Sg Besar, find this stall especially during tea time. A small piece costs you 50 sen, and a big one (group set hehe) RM 1.50. pay, eat, and be satisfied. +D
Add: Not really far from the cendol and putu piring stalls, really.

Shop.
Looking for clothes at cheap prices? This is the place, makciks. All folks in town come here to do their shopping because KL is two and a half hours away. The town has a suprising wide range of shops selling mainly clothes and apparels. Go for a bargain, and cheap cheap cheap is all you can say when you're here. Mind the quality, though.

Accommodations & Others.
There are some chalets....a beach called Bagan Nakhoda Omar is nearby but we didn't go there. Search for a good ikan bakar there, they said. Just head for the nearby Kg Kuantan Firefly Sanctuary frthr south in Kuala Selangor if you're bored. A good trip if you want to get a look at the rural side of the most modern state in Malaysia.

Overall: good food trip, but by vacation standards, is really out of the beaten track and a turn-off. you shopaholics & bargain hunters, just go to pengkalan kubor or golok. typical rural district basically. *****
