alert, or maybe not

no more rumors. for real, the results will be released on March 12.

nobody knows for sure, of

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

for the lost loved ones, loved ones of the loved ones, and everybody who care and spread love. for the innocent lives of Palestinians and Iraqis, for those who suffer from war. for those struggling with disease and epidemic. for those who are traumatized and for those with the broken hearts. for those who claim they've failed their lives and their life sucks. for those who just can't get over it. for those who stayed up at night. for backstabbers, haters and the envious. for those who take care of others. for moms and dads. for breast cancer, HIV & Aids survivors. for those who enjoy freedom. for those who never lost hope. for natural disaster victims. for those who suffer under the injustice of another man. for those who believe and make others believe. for those who fear the future. for those who hate the past. for you, too.

"nampak ape² tak?"

So, are you alone?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Say: "I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of the daybreak,
From the evil of what He has created,
And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away),
And from the evil of those who practice witchcraft when they blow in the knots,
And from the evil of the envier when he envies."

the Qur'an, 113: 1-5
This is the third post I write regarding of what is so-called supernatural, and I must say being a fellow Malay myself, I can't escape from at least having a belief that there are unseen living things that co-exist within our lives. I'm not superstitious, and believing in the existence of these things are not superstitious either, for the existence of the Angels, Jinns, Iblis or Devil or Diabolos, Satan or Saytan or Shaitan, are confirmed by God in the Quran. I mean, to the extent that 'yaw, they exist and don't deny it', things like that. And I'm not fundamental either. It's just something basic. It's a part of life.

Some people (say, so-called experts) claim that what we know (and maybe, fear) as 'hantu' fall into the Jinn category - the bad Jinns clique. They're the evil guys, the evil spirit like some might like to call them, and their main point is to drive man to go astray thus fearing them more than they fear God - shaking and diverting one's iman - faith, and their akidah - belief.

In the Malay Archipelago - the Nusantara - the most popular hantu in the block is simply the image of a beautiful woman in a white robe that will (most of the time) morph itself into a very terrifying vampire (kind of) and known in Malaysia as the Pontianak, in Indonesia - the Kuntilanak and in the islands of the Philippines, the Mananaggal. Most hantu cope with the hot and humid tropical weather, and although most make their appearance at the slightly cooler nights, they are often sighted wearing white.

Unlike their Malay human counterparts, most hantu are competent in doing their tasks. Their existence and ability to cause fear are still relevant in the 21st century, some even go as far as roaming some floors of one of the world's tallest buildings, some parts of the world's best airport, the LRT lines and the posh vicinity of Putrajaya. But still, some chose to stick to traditional ways - roaming abandoned old houses, graveyards, mansions, roads, campsites, forests, etc. So simply, it's easier to find them at these places, for its their 'place', their port to hang out.

And so we did.

It was merely a suggestion from Uzair that turned out to be a confirmed plan. The particular bungalow at Seksyen 12 has always attracted ghost seekers, supernatural enthusiasts and, well, budak nakal alike. It was featured in Seekers, and in that episode they actually smelled a kind of scent. Rumor has it that the house can't, and never will, be completed. Should anybody buy the house, and renovate it and eventually claim they've completed it, then spend a night in it, he or she will find out, in the next morning that the house has turned back into its incomplete state. Some engineering wonder, eh? So if that kind of stuff happen,

1. The tenant might think that they've hired some lousy contractor, or
2. They should bloody better be leaving.

Hence after two series of unfortunate events, nobody dares to buy the house for clearly it'd be an incredulous investment (financially and mentally). So it was left there, abandoned.

So we went there, the night before Friday (malam Jumaat lah). There was 7 of us, but we expected more. Some have seen the house before and some don't. But everyone pun gasped in awe at the house's hugeness lah. The house is now berpagar, and with the incredibly eerie condition nobody dared to climb the gate. But wondering outside is enough to give the creeps. Qayum claimed to see things, anyway, together with Mahfuz. Not much to elaborate though, other than us being creepy and having goosebumps, but then we took some pictures and headed home.

All pictures were captured in low shutter, of assurance of this you should ask Mahfuz. But if my camera captured anything within this speed, any 'appearance' would be probably of no doubt. If we used flash, for instance, the light emitted from the camera will hit the particles in the air - habuk, debu or anything of that sort - producing some people call as 'energy balls' or fireballs, while actually it's just a reaction when the camera lights hit some tiny objects in the air. However chances are high if we use infrared filters, for these filters are inclined to heat changes or a slight variation in temperature - for the presence of the creatures can cause an alteration in the environment's temperature. But, nah, we don't have those.

So when we actually saw this picture, we panicked at first, but it turns out that the so-called image is a stain (a very convincing stain, that is) on the house's main gate's right pillar. But still when viewed after much suspense (and expectations to see things) that midnight, it still caused me to not bringing my camera home and making Mahfuz to keep it for one night before returning it to me the next morning. haha. When we examined the pictures the morning after at my house, it is confirmed not an image of any 'supernatural' stuffs, et al. So are in any other pictures, we saw nothing in them. But if anybody else saw anything else that night (which is, maybe a yes), it's merely up to them and it's their problem.

We entered the house in the next morning. I know groups that have entered the house at night with video cams (that includes your group, Amir), and I must say, in a sense, it's bloody brave because inside it's kind of dangerous. But either way, we found nothing, except that the house is (again) very huge, plus we found a small, hidden stair that leads up to a dark passageway leading upstairs - but we didn't take the risk. Plus some cigar packs, bottles and stuffs. So, after being contented of what we saw (at least I think of it that way), we left. But today, because Raimi wanted to see the house so much, AB drove pass the house and it still looked scary, the drizzling rain and the gloomy weather added the extra effect.

I don't know whether we're lucky or not (I mean, it's subjective) for not to encounter anything. But even not having a relatively horrible experience pun, it seemed like everybody had trouble sleeping that night. Still, alhamdulillah lah x jadi pape. Just got into a babbling session with Mama & Ayah, that's all. But Mama claim that it would be a 'kenangan manis' when we all grow up. That's a point (I think). Still it's a certified tempat keras, a 'friend of friend of a friend' having encounters is not a rare story. Sightings, creepy, blood-gushing goosebumps causing sounds, frangipani and kapur barus scents, are often told and heard.

Let's leave the house (or mansion) alone for now. The question is not whether the dubbed makhluk-makhluk halus exist or vice versa, but whether you believe in them or not. Whether you intend to see them, meet them, or feel them. With no substantial amount of faith whatsoever, one could fall into their trap and allured into using them and depending on them, causing imbalance in life and destroying the very aspect of monotheism - tauhid - believing in the Oneness of God.

I'm trying to write this in a very acceptable manner - by that I mean in an utmost logical sense possible. Just a fair, innocent reminder. They and us, we and them, fear each other. Seeing Malays using jinns, talismans, and practicing black magic and witchcraft to make each other fall sickens me. It's a shocking and humiliating reality, seeing how foolish some of us can be. So, with 13 years left for the country to be a developed nation, will the minds of our people be developed as well? 13 years is short. Oh, and 13 is not a good number.

and just go one by one of these, don't push yourself.
Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One who sustains and protects all that exists.
Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him.
To Him belongs to whatever is in the heavens, and whatever is on the earth.
Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission?
He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter.
And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge expect that which He wills.
His Kursi (Throne) extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them.
And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

the Qur'an, 2: 255
well, you see, God always got His point. That's 'the' Kursi verse anyway.

mind your luck this season

Right now, nearly everybody's on leave, having a break or anything of that sort (I mean, for all the time it is only us that's on holiday, some people don't) so there's a reason to spread the joy and celebrate! So....grabbing the chance to meet up with some people, and doing whatever lah. And, to bakal wira & wirawati negara, you're now well aware of the places that you'll be heading to, right? haha :p. Yeah to Soh & Siah and Uncle Koh especially, and then to everyone, have fun celebrating the Lunar New Year. As always, may we be prosper and prosper-er, lucky and luckier, and, uh, rich and richer? I'm desperately in need of an ang pau. :(

Not in the writing mood very much these days. But surely you'll get something that is rather staggering in a day or two. I'll say. for now, Xīn nián kuài lè! (simply, happy new year)

my blog and i

1 year of blogging!

Changes sure have taken place here since the very first time I've ever actually written a post. Since last year I've tried to develop my own style of writing - to be more exact blogging - and I'm still struggling to do so. From a very personal blog, it's slowly changing to be public and after one year I'm very glad that I have readers of my own - anonymous or not. Recently I wrote about matters that are not so discreetly personal - because I want people to know my views about things, and not about stuffs that I do everyday - I don't want the blog to be so diary-like. Plus it's better to talk and write about ideas, instead of elaborating about events and people. But I'll still do bragging-like posts anyway, so that's what I'm about to do now.

Well, comparing to the first post, I still go to D.E - I went there twice today - I had my breakfast with, coincidentally, Nabila and Chakra and I still had my teh ais. Then, after plundering in Ghazi's shop in SACC, I had a lepak session with Atikah, Athari, Qayum, Uzair and Ain there in the afternoon. Atuk came today, but we don't celebrate his birthday (his birthday isn't exactly on February 11) but still we had a light time. There are strictly no Starbucks, Baskin Robbins and KFC sessions today, because unlike like last year, I'm now facing financial calamity and am bankrupt in total agony. 'Nuff said, that one. I've no freaking (school) books to flip, of course. But one thing for sure, Syaza did what she said she would do (see post) and I'm not by whatever chance, numb when blogging.

At this time last year we're still busy preparing for Hari Sukan, while right now everything's over. Thanks to all the shouting, my voice is becoming hoarse and raucous - which is, really holding me from talking, singing and even laughing. But I made no effort to at least stop talking or refraining from doing anything vocal. There's the stubbornness. People have started to mock me anyway, muaha. I've checked, the so-called voice disorder is known as dysphonia.

Right now the blog's accessible through my Friendster page (among other links). I hesitate on putting a link to my MySpace page - the main port - for some reasons, you know sometimes MySpacers can be sort of 'wild', aite. But most MySpacers have Friendster profiles, so I'm still considering anyway. Currently working on my Fotopages account, to prevent posting too much pictures in the blog and housing all the pictures in the 'right' place, of course.

I bear responsibility for what I write, therefore I think before I write about stuffs, especially those which are sensitive. So that's my policy - hence what you see now is what I think can be read by the readers. But if there are some people thinking otherwise - that's where the comment box come in handy. I like opinions, though I'm quite hostile to criticisms (bad, I know) but I still like to know and eventually accept it. I write in English just because I chose to do so, for I still have more to learn about the language. I'm not degrading Bahasa Melayu, so keep with that. I'm in a learning process here. I'm bloody proud of my bahasa ibunda. But seriously no forcing or lambasting - or else I'll give you a blog in Jawi.

I delete posts that I'm not fond of, and if I find some posts that is unsuitable and just too misfitting I'll turn 'em into drafts, or simply, delete it. That's me alright.

Well things will continue, though you'll surely see no updates when somebody set off for his PLKN. haha. So after one year, there's still more to improve. Blogs will forever be self-indulging anyway, so blame nobody for that. Sorry to go all skema sometimes, haha. And another reason to write with care is that, Ayah's reading my blog! haha. hello Ayah! agaga. :p

Whatever it is, to you readers, thanks for reading and keep on wasting your time reading both craps and things with so-called benefits (if there is any). Because you rock.

and the pathetic posts that I personally like: this and this.

green's big wave splashed everyone

blast! Hijau made a suprising climb. well, what a race. Kuning did relatively good also, at least they had a sweet revenge against Hijau in tarik tali. I mean, yeah, at least. Merah's kawad props was good, but eventually Hijau won the whole kawad competition. Maybe because of their cheerleaders. Anyhow it felt good to just watch the whole thing work without having the need to lend a hand (i.e buat kerja) like in the old days. Some were still rajin (say, Syafiq J, Najmi & Qayum). That's their problem. Whatever it is, this is one of the best Hari Sukan, yet.

we who came were (very) happy, and i hope everybody's happy too lah.

participate & anticipate. and don't forget to celebrate.

revive the spirit of Niners!

Temperature's rising, the internet's bumpy and I think I'm catching a little fever. Or should we say, a 'lil' fever? So, I (nearly) enjoyed my time at the school just now, meeting familiar faces and mingling with kids (includes those who've finished their SPM, not knowing what to do, were playing rounders). The thing is now Segara is taking their so-called glorious lead, with Buana steeply catching up. Purnama is a little shy this year, and Suria is, say, just playing the game consistently (well, I am trying to put the right words here).

Blame nobody for the early Hari Sukan and also the weird day to actually have one. But just come tomorrow at Stadium Matsushita and join in the literally burning heat! I expect no surprises though, for I did had a little surprise seeing the Merentas Desa results (usually the final results will not run far - USUALLY). But, just in case Suria managed to be in at least third place, however, can cause me to freak out and maybe treating everybody.

There'll be no Unit Beruniform participating in the march this year. Which leaves the four houses to be fiercely competing against each other, with the extra help of their respective cheer leading team. Well, let's anticipate already.

for now, from Last year's Hari Sukan!

let the games begin!

finding love in the escapades

Though it's February and the jingle bells are remotely clinching, The Holiday's late release here in the local cinemas has proven worthy.

I've proven myself to be outdated when I actually felt agitated to write this so-called review, but for a movie deliberately watched that turned out to be casually-crafted yet beautiful in many sense, The Holiday deserves at least a miniature encore from my inner self.

Straight-forwardly, it opens with a good soundtrack, and while I was wondering who's composing it the name Hans Zimmer appeared on the screen, which totally shut up all the stupid questions in mind for this guy produce gleaming, brilliant movie soundtracks. For me, the movie gave the 'A' vibe throughout the story - you'll feel sad in a good way, reflective - also in a good way, touched, tickled, and maybe aroused in a good way too. Two love affairs, one between Graham (Jude Law) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), while another deals between Iris (Kate Winslet) and Miles (Jack Black) were narrated perfectly and went along together smoothly, intertwined in a captivating manner.

It reminded me of the good holiday season though - always the best time of the year for retreating and reflecting - one of the main questions of the movie. Basically what the characters were actually doing is finding the right answer to a mainstream question - what the hell is true love? though in the movie, question of where is true love also applies.

Jack Black gave a rather surprisingly stunning performance, to the fact that we always watch him in characters that are usually not so serious (say, Nacho Libre). Though the line 'I feel like a rockstar' do sparks some memories of him in the School of Rock. And, damn lah, Cameron Diaz's driving Mini Cooper in the movie! tsk tsk. Now which one is attractive? Surely, well, Mini Cooper lah kan? argh!

Either way, the movie's terrific. It'll remind you that, basically there are many ways to appreciate life and manage love, plus there are always hope even you're pathetically heartbroken. Albeit being shown rather off-season here in Malaysia, the movie is still great to be enjoyed, and bottom-line is, The Holiday is lovely.

(I don't think it's a heavy chick-lit either)

the initial hike to architecture

it's more than anything physical - mental stability, spiritual approach just enhance the beauty together with doses of extreme creativity. becoming an architect; dealing with architecture - are just not as what i thought it might be.

I was more than glad when Qaisy invited me to a brief tour consisting of a very fine introductory, virtually-assisted view of architecture at Hijjas Kasturi Associates located halfway down Jalan Sultan Ismail. one of Malaysia's top architectural firm headed by a very well-established leading architect and a loyal patron to many fields of art in the nation. Qaisy had the opportunity to work there, being an apprentice - doing researches and tasks, covering architecturally-related subjects and topics, obviously. For me and many architecturally-aspired youngsters, that's a freaking big deal and Qaisy is one big fortunate guy, working under the watchful eyes of the best architects in Malaysia. tolerantly speaking - this guy's future is vigorously bright!

What I was told was breathtakingly simple but contains great importance and understanding - architecture is not all about designing buildings. there's more to it.

It's the highest level of art, but it can't run away from science. both are vital and crucial in the field. As designing and the process of constructing buildings require loads of involvement in using natural resources and relying much on the environmental causes, good architecture simultaneously appreciates the gifts of God whilst connecting humanity and divinity in a closer way.

Architecture deals alot with visual, spatial, cultural, aural, atmospheric and tactile aspects of the human being's senses and way of life, for a building must not be only aesthetically-interesting but also contributively functional and inhabitable. that's the main purpose of making buildings in the first place, anyway. I was exposed to many aspects of architecture - the usage and functions of line, scale, the solid and void of a building, the use of light and shadow, texture, balance and symmetry in design, pattern, and of course form, color and shape; which are critically important to judge a form of architecture, in general.

My head was knocked with many surprising reality of architecture anyway. astonished I was, but in a desirable way, of course. I was shown by Mr Azzaydi, the associate architect-cum-lecturer, who was also Qaisy's close mentor, great projects and fabulous designs from the biggest superpowers in the architectural world, to the smallest and simplest form of architecture ever imagined. Basically architecture signifies a race or a nation's achievement and success, a subject of pride and a symbol of civilizations. that one, is truly undeniable. architecture at many times reflects visions and aspirations of a person, or a group of people, a leader or a ruler, a country or just anybody. simply associate Malaysia and the Petronas Twin Towers if you're bloody clueless - by far, that's one good example.

Many buildings in Malaysia are just buildings, Mr Azzaydi said - only some of it are architecture. I made that a fact a long time ago. While parts of the Golden Triangle are awe-inspiring, the old parts of KL remain an eyesore, hideous buildings with simply bad taste of paint colours roaming the city. beautiful old shophouses are not preserved - like say, Singapore - ugly buildings are allowed to rise while finding its space, which seems to be unfit.

Buildings with bright pink and yucky lime green and many shocking combinations are also not a rare sight.

But simply my visit was paid-off. Thanks to both of these guys in particular I am more determined now, but I'm not harvesting high hopes, just building confidence and sheer understanding about the career of an architect. It was a great exposure, providing cluster of informations - shunned me away from uncertainties big time. Loving it because it deals a lot with creativity and imagination - plus you must have no flaw to draw, though at many times it's just a very big extra.

There are seriously more, but I've fear of making the post too encyclopedic. But what I learned, though a very little portion of the big reality, was satisfying enough. What's left, is finding a path to it.

Qaisy was an MRSM Jasin student, a friend of Mahfuz, Sarah, and of course many others, who got the golden chance when he chose Hijjas Kasturi as a subject for his sem project (the same task that Sarah and others chose a play titled Phantom of the Opera as their subject). Eventually he got spotted, and as soon after SPM he was brought into the architect's firm to be trained and taught about the basic tenets of architecture, and at many times things way beyond basic.

Hijjas Kasturi's main works include the Maybank building at Jalan Tun Perak, the Tabung Haji Building, The Telekom HQ (the tall green one near Angkasapuri and the Mid Valley, top 30 tallest in the world), Putrajaya Convention Centre, the Putrajaya Boulevard, and among others. more at www.hijjaskasturi.com
