Keeping It Steady

Behold, a shift from Islamist to centrist.

By now many who have followed the three by-elections recently are already accepting the results. Of course, with two out of the three contested seats grabbed clean by the so-called other side, the mainstream media muted themselves without so many haste. Instead, out of very clear ignorance, they try to veer out attention towards the new prime minister's up and coming cabinet line-up. This happened after our new prime minister asked the Malaysian media -- the mainstream ones in particular -- to do a 'world-class reporting' while assuring them to 'do not hesitate to report any news'.

Seriously, when will you guys learn?

I congratulate the particular 'Islamist' party founded by leftist Dr. Burhanuddin Helmy, in which has grown so powerful it sincerely amazes me. For the party to swiftly gain non-Muslim voters is groundbreaking. Ultra-nationalists, feudalists and racists are too suffocating, and while they are busy collecting contracts, Islam is just another tool, which is saddening.

While it is understandable that the party didn't gain much of the Malay votes, it is quite soothing to think that the party itself, whether realised or otherwise, has promoted Islam at least on the core, which is much a staggering bonus than to fear any treason allegations.

No matter what the label is, Islamist or centrist, I hope this party get what they deserves in the future.

Hard to be a Malay who thinks otherwise, huh?

for me, i'd just want to sit back and see, the effects of the new PM.

many major changes, some major trials over and done with. It's coincidence/irony at its best.
